The 7th Round of the Yorkshire Points Cyclo Cross Winter series took place at a rather foggy & damp Myrtle Park, Bingley on Sunday. Once again the Huddersfield Star Wheelers youngsters were to the fore in the Under 8s race with Alex Bailey taking the win & club mate Luca Longo in 2nd place, Hannah Whitworth (Huddersfield RC) was fastest Girl. Kirklees Cycling Academy's Henry Hollyman won the Under 10s race & brother Mason was 3rd in the Under 12s behind Pedalsport duo Jenson Young & Matt Taylor.
In the Veteran/Womens race former Holme Valley Wheeler Richard Binks (Clay Cross RT) was in 5th place, the race was won by Chris Young (Wheelbase) who has proved unbeatable this year in Yorkshire Points events. Mirfield's Louise Robinson was an impressive 10th place overall. Graham Piccavey (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) was 22nd.
The Senior/Juniors race was won by Rob Watson (Paul Milnes RT) with Endura professional Ian Wilkinson in 2nd. Watson was able to keep Wilkinson at bay thanks to his bunny hopping skills, leaping over a huge concrete step every lap whilst all other riders had to dismount.
Jake Womersley (Aire Valley RT) was 5th place & 2nd Junior rider, an impressive result for the Mirfield youngster as he had raced with the Future Stars at the Revolution track meeting at Manchester Velodrome the previous evening.
Joining Womersley at Manchester were former Holme Valley Wheeler Jacob Scott (Planet X) & Hartshead youngster Abby Mae Parkinson (RST Racing Team) all riding for the Chep UK team along with the rest of the Yorkshire Youth Squad.
Parkinson had a great night's racing with 2nd place in the Elimination race, Scott took two 3rd places in the Elimination & Points races.
Another former Holme Valley rider & Olympic Team Pursuit Champion & multiple World Champion Ed Clancy took victory in the 1km Madison Time Trial with Rapha Condor Sharp team mate Andy Tennant in a spectatcular time of 55.351 seconds.
The highlight of the night for the 4000 spectators was an appearance from World Road Champion & Tour De France Green Jersey winner Mark Cavendish guest riding for the Howies team. Cavendish won the final event of the night the 15km Scratch race.
